Cirkelbroen_1200

Cirkelbroen, Christianshavn Kanal, Copenhagen, 2015, is designed by Olafur Eliasson. The artist reinvents mobility as illustrated in his statement: The bridge is made of five circular platforms, and it contributes to a larger circle that will form a pedestrian route around Copenhagen Harbour, where people cycling, running, walking can see the city from a very different perspective. As many as 5,000 people will cross this bridge each day. I hope that these people will use Cirkelbroen as a meeting place. The zigzag design of the bridge will make them reduce their speed and take a break. To hesitate on our way is to engage in bodily thought. I see such introspection as an essential part of a vibrant city. Photo: Anders Sune Berg. Copyright: Olafur Eliasson.

Can only organisations be reinvented or can complete sectors be reinvented to become teal? It is this key question that I would like to explore with you by presenting a ‘future backwards’ story on mobility and engage with you in dialogue.

Mobility has been key for human development. It has enabled people to travel and migrate and the transportation of goods. Technologies and inventions such as sailing, the invention of the wheel, flying and the combustion engine have made this easier. This has brought us prosperity. Yet challenges remain:

Annually a 1.4 million people die in traffic

  • Combustion engines continue to exhaust toxic gasses
  • Urban areas can be heavily congested
  • Transportation infrastructure and vehicles take a lot of scarce space
  • Vehicles are using materials that are becoming scarce
  • Citizen’s privacy seems uncontrollable

All these challenges can be plotted in an integral matrix of mobility evolution of which the development of human consciousness towards teal is one. The toughest challenges appear as limits to a certain stage of development. Transforming to the next stage solves challenges yet brings about new ones.

Currently we are also witnessing many new technologies being developed and implemented and new players with innovative business models entering the market.

  • Fully electric cars of Tesla and their intellectual property free inventions.
  • Solar fuels that take CO2 out of the air
  • Trucks talking to other trucks allowing road trains with just one driver
  • Community based traffic and navigation app Waze
  • The on-demand models of Uber taxi, rush, eats, essentials, cargo, mover
  • Car sharing platforms like Buzzcar based on hybrid business model peers Inc;
  • 3D printed cars
  • Wikispeed an open-source car manufacturer with top experts volunteering from all over the world
  • Electric bicycles that go up to 40 km/h
  • Blockchain technology applied to mobility

Mobility has become very complex. The integral matrix of mobility evolution integrates all aspects of mobility and shows that society’s real innovation for mobility is in integration of emerging paradigms for natural resources, labor, capital, technology, leadership, consumption, coordination and ownership. The matrix and especially evolution of human development towards teal will make us more aware of the evolution of mobility we are all part of. Integral mediation can bring different views together to collaborate effectively and hence progress development.

About the presentation

At IEC I would like to present the integral matrix of mobility evolution as a ‘future backwards’ story as if we were already living in the future and looked back at the major changes. The integral matrix of mobility evolution is a complex model that requires much more time to share and discuss it with you. I will therefore present this as a poster and/or an article.

About myself

I have a background in electronics, computer science and business administration from Dutch and English Universities. During my studies I interned with KLM in New York and worked with Japanese companies in Europe early on in my career. Without realising it at first I always had a ‘developmental mindset’, always looking for the ‘next thing’. This drove many types of innovations

I helped innovate marketing to one-to-one marketing, introduced eCommerce, transferred business models, worked on the development of purchasing excellence and marketing excellence. Currently I’m working on agile collaboration in the air traffic management, defence and security sector and developing eco-system economics. In 2013 I co-published a paper on using a cooperative platform as part of a larger eco system in the road mobility sector to implement smart mobility.

In 2013 I did not now of Teal, Holacracy, Integral, Spiral Dynamics, Theory U and more. Shortly after that I did and discovered great similarities and inspiration in these concepts for further development of sectors and its constituents.
