One of our readers wrote: “I try to imagine EE as a prototype. What would it be?”
My guess is that we can’t really imagine it before we turn it into a prototype. But maybe we can explore what we’d like to see EE becoming a prototype for?
In my imagination, EE can become a prototype for:
• a new form of cooperative enterprises, where the members care for and support each other’s well-being and fuller potential as much as their own
• collective sensing and meaning-making organs of social movements, which augment their collective intelligence, wisdom, and impact
• an ecosystem of EE-branded, self-organizing, Teal media organizations that pursue their evolutionary purpose in a variety media, engaging the power of synergy, cross-marketing, and transmedia storytelling
Of course, that list is not complete. Why not share the fruits of your imagination about what you would like to see EE becoming a prototype for?
Whatever we imagine, I recommend that those of us are or want to be engaged in the prototyping use the questions associated with the 5 dimensions outlined by Otto Scharmer below.
George. I wonder it this idea of prototyping is the right connecting point for me to bring my current Dadamac work, myself (and any Dadamac people who are interested) to Enlivening Edge.
The work could fit into the prototyping idea because it is an example of an information commons, but there are other possibilities too, such as current work to make it a Holacracy and to expand it as a Teal organisation.
Regarding my work I bring its past history of a long journey made up of small steps, (forwards, backwards and sideways), which can be seen as a series of learning experiences and prototyping. I also bring current uncertainties, big vision and desire for collaboration.
Regarding revolutionary intention – the intention is disruptive regarding any traditional top-down models of International Development. Regarding Spaces and Places – we would be building on existing spaces and places “in the cloud” and in the physical world.
Regarding Listen to the Universe – in the context of what I have been learning since I enrolled for the U.Lab MOOC I believe the answer is yes.
Regaridng 0.8:Iterate – An anecdote may serve to illustrate that iteration is the preferred Dadamac way. I was describing my work to someone, and was surprised when she responded. “It’s so refreshing to hear someone who doesn’t mind talking about their failures”. I wasn’t aware that I had been, so I asked what she meant. Apparently my narrative was peppered with phrases like “We tried …. but that didn’t work so…” “I assumed.. and found out that was wrong.” “We went back and tried …. ” All of which she picked up as “failures” but I had seen as natural parts of the process of learning by doing and reflection.
I know the present situation regarding Dadamac is one of transition. I’m accustomed to working with minimal resources. I have a vision that is way beyond my ability and resources to enable it, so I just want to collaborate with people who have some kind of aligned purposes and see what emerges.
