EE Magazine Editorial August 2018 – Ripples into the Mainstream

By Lia Aurami and Edith Friesen for Enlivening Edge Magazine

As a child, I was mesmerized by wind blowing across a lake, or a couple of pebbles tossed into the water, rippling out. Perhaps you were, too.

Ripples start locally and small, and they can grow in scope and impact. One person, one pebble, can start ripples that become a stream. Mother Theresa said: “I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples.”

Today, many of us are challenged just by raising the consciousness and changing the ways of ourselves and those around us. The possibility of larger-scale reinventing, changing the world, or even whole sectors of society, or regions, often seems like “someday maybe.”

When EE Magazine set its theme for our July-August articles as “ripples outward from Integral European Conference 2018”—itself themed Allies of Evolution—we surprisingly expanded our discovery of the vast scope and scale of shores those ripples of evolution are indeed reaching.

The evolutionary impulse that’s showing up in reinventing organizations is showing up in people thinking new thoughts about governance, even on a global scale. And there are plenty of people thinking specific new thoughts about how economies would also evolve.

New evolutionary thoughts are now more possible for people reading the Arabic language, and the ripples outward from that are already visible, for example in this story.

At EE Magazine we are immersed in “good news” stories like these (and others you can check out in our latest Highlights) on small and on large scales. Reading our stories is your own way to discover and be heartened and inspired by seeing all the “good news” happening.

From our view, and yours as you explore all these articles, reinventing societal sectors and regions of the world is not only “possible;” together we are watching it happen.

New ways of working, relating, and behaving are all around us, and you can add to the ripple effect. How about learning ways of asking your co-workers direct, simple accountability-boosting questions? Or focusing on how regarding your organization as a living system could help it thrive? How about engaging in more peer-to-peer relationships, as a way of organizing work? Or processing tensions more quickly, easily, productively, and benevolently?

We are all learning from the generous experience-sharing of other pioneers of reinvented organizations and society. Here through EE Magazine you can directly contact and connect with others, much like neurons in the global brain whose consciousness is expanding exponentially through those connections. Connections and ripples create synergy and impact.

For all those reasons, we can echo Frederic Laloux as he says “In many ways, I believe this is all just the beginning”—a beginning that you can see, through reading EE Magazine, is well underway.

Laloux’s Reinventing Organizations was one pebble tossed; EE Magazine, and your reading it, are among the ripples from that book. Imagine what will happen when all our reinvention ripples join together to create the mainstream of our lives in society.
